FAQ
What is a giclée photography print?
Giclée is a high-quality printing process designed to reproduce photographs with strong colour accuracy, detail and tonal depth. It is particularly well suited to fine-art photography and produces a noticeably more refined result than a standard poster print.
What paper are the photographs printed on?
The prints are currently produced on Enhanced Matte Art Paper with a weight of 200 gsm. The smooth, matte surface reduces reflections and allows the detail and colour of the original photograph to remain the main focus.
Are the prints framed?
No. All prints are supplied unframed, allowing you to choose a frame that suits both the photograph and your home. The frames shown in product mock-ups are for display purposes only.
What size frame should I buy?
Buy a frame that matches the stated paper size exactly. For example, if you purchase an A4 print, buy an A4 frame. The white border is integrated inside the dimensions of the sheet, meaning the print drops straight into any off-the-shelf frame of that designated size without requiring you to trim the paper.
Can I get my prints without a border?
Yes. If you prefer your prints borderless (full bleed), please contact me directly when placing your order and I will arrange this for you.
Note: If you choose the borderless option for squarer paper sizes (8x10, 12x16, 16x20), the image will be cropped on the left and right edges to allow the photograph to completely fill the paper.
Why do the prints include a white border by default?
The integrated white border serves both practical and aesthetic purposes:
Safe Handling: Giclée fine art paper features delicate pigment inks that are sensitive to natural skin oils and scratches. The border creates a safe zone for unpacking and framing.
Gallery Aesthetic: The border acts as a clean whitespace frame around the photograph, giving it a premium gallery-style look right out of the box without requiring an expensive custom window mat.
Framer's Grip: If you choose to use a custom window mount (mat board), the border provides the exact physical area necessary for the framer to secure the print behind the display board without clipping the main photograph.
Will my photograph be cropped?
If you keep the default integrated border, cropping depends entirely on the size you select:
No Cropping (4x6 and A-Series): Prints sized 4x6, A5, A4, A3, and A2 preserve 100% of the native image composition. The photograph is scaled inside the page boundaries, and the borders absorb the formatting difference so zero details are lost.
Slight Edge Cropping (8x10, 12x16, 16x20): These paper sizes are physically wider and squarer than a standard camera sensor shape. To ensure the print looks balanced with a uniform border, the image is scaled to fill the layout. This results in a minor, intentional crop on the far left and right outer edges of the photograph.
What are the exact print and border dimensions?
The table below breaks down the exact paper dimensions, the default border widths applied to each side, and the impact on the image layout.
How should I handle my print when it arrives?
Because Giclée matte fine art prints are highly susceptible to scuffing, please follow these guidelines:
Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before unpacking, or wear clean cotton gloves.
Only hold the print by the white margins. Avoid touching the printed image area directly.
Allow the print to flatten naturally out of its shipping tube on a clean surface before placing it directly into your frame.
What print sizes are available?
The current range includes:
Metric sizes: A5, A4, A3 and A2
Imperial sizes: 4 × 6, 8 × 10, 12 × 16 and 16 × 20 inches
Available options are shown on each individual product page.
How do I choose the right size?
A5 and A4 prints work well on shelves, desks and smaller sections of wall. A3 provides more visual impact without dominating a room, while A2 is better suited to creating a larger focal point.
Before ordering, it is worth marking the dimensions on your wall using masking tape. Remember to allow additional space for the mount and frame.
Are these original photographs?
Yes. Each print is produced from an original photograph taken by Lewis Fowler. The collection includes landscape, architectural, street and travel photography from locations across Scotland, Newcastle and further afield.
Where available, the story and location behind the photograph can be found in the product description.
Are the prints made to order?
Yes. Each print is produced after an order is placed rather than being held as mass-produced stock. Please allow approximately one to four working days for printing, quality control and packaging before dispatch. Delivery time is additional to this production period.
How will my print be packaged?
Packaging depends on the print size and delivery destination.
For UK orders, 4 × 6-inch prints are sent flat, while larger prints are normally sent rolled. For deliveries to the EU, United States and Australia, A5, A4, 4 × 6 and 8 × 10 prints are normally sent flat, while larger sizes are rolled.Rolled prints may need a little time to flatten naturally before framing. Avoid bending them in the opposite direction, as this could damage the surface.
How much does delivery cost?
Delivery costs are calculated at checkout based on the destination, print size and selected delivery method. Where an order qualifies for free delivery, it will be sent using the available budget delivery service.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
International delivery is available to supported destinations. The available delivery methods and final cost will be displayed during checkout after you enter your address.
Import taxes or customs charges may apply in some countries. These charges are determined by the destination country and are not included unless explicitly shown at checkout.
Are the prints produced sustainably?
The prints are made using water-based inks and sustainably sourced paper. Plastic-free packaging is used, and orders are fulfilled locally wherever possible to reduce unnecessary transport and carbon emissions.
Will the colours look exactly the same as they do on my screen
The print is produced to reproduce the original photograph as accurately as possible. However, screens vary in brightness, colour calibration and contrast, so minor differences between the displayed image and the finished print are normal.
The frame and room mock-ups are intended to demonstrate how the artwork may look when displayed and are not exact representations of scale.
Can I request a different size or printing material?
Yes. Alternative sizes or print materials may be possible as a custom request. Use the contact form before ordering and include the photograph you are interested in, your required dimensions and any preferred material.
Can I return a print?
The product pages currently state that return requests can be made within 30 days of the order completion date. Contact me as soon as possible after receiving your order and provide your order details and the reason for the return.
What should I do if my print arrives damaged?
Photograph the print and its packaging as soon as you notice the damage. Submit the photographs through the contact form along with your order details so that the issue can be reviewed.
Do not dispose of the packaging until the issue has been resolved, as the delivery provider may require evidence of the damage.
